McGuire Evasive, Gallagher the winner, in first and only Congressional Candidate debate

Yuba City CA – For the first and only time, the leading candidates for Congress in the First District all appeared on stage together in a candidate debate. Bay Area Democrat State Senator Mike McGuire, Democrat Audrey Denny and Republican State Assemblyman James Gallagher appeared in Chico this evening in a debate covered live by Action News Now.

“I think what voters had a chance to see during this debate is that they have clear choices in this election. Simply put, I’m running to unite voters and bring change - Mike McGuire is looking out for himself. Mike did little to connect with local voters. He is a politician who doesn’t live in the district, took congressional redistricting maps out of the hands of an independent commission to further his own political career, and has a record closely aligned with Governor Gavin Newsom. Voters will certainly leave this debate believing that we need better.”

"It is clear to see why Mike McGuire only agreed to one debate," said Gallagher campaign consultant Dave Gilliard. "He refused to answer the question about his support for early parole for serial rapists and child molesters by talking about the Epstein files."
