Shasta County, CA -- Assemblyman James Gallagher today announced a broad and growing list of endorsements from leaders across Shasta County in his campaign for the California’s 1st Congressional District, following the sudden and tragic passing of Congressman Doug LaMalfa.
Gallagher, who has represented much of the North State in the California State Assembly, said the outpouring of support from Shasta County leaders reflects a shared commitment to carrying forward Congressman LaMalfa’s legacy of service, advocacy for rural communities, and steadfast defense of constitutional freedoms.
“This is a pivotal moment for the North State,” Gallagher said. “We need someone ready on day one to defend our way of life, protect our water, secure our border, and rein in out-of-control federal spending. I am ready to serve and to continue fighting for the values that define our region.”
The Special Election for California’s 1st Congressional District will be held later this year. For more information about the campaign and a complete list of endorsements, visit www.ElectJamesGallagher.com.

Responding to Gallagher’s campaign announcement Shasta County leaders followed up with the following reactions:
“I am proud to endorse James Gallagher for California’s 1st Congressional District as we mourn the passing of my very good friend and mentor, Doug LaMalfa. James Gallagher is the right person to carry that responsibility forward. He is intelligent, diligent, and strategic—a serious leader who understands policy, governance, and the unique needs of this district. James approaches leadership thoughtfully and with discipline, always focused on long-term outcomes rather than short-term headlines. At this pivotal moment, CD1 deserves steady, capable leadership rooted in the same values Doug exemplified. I am confident James Gallagher will serve with integrity, competence, and deep respect for the people and principles Doug LaMalfa spent his life defending.”
- Tenessa Audette, Redding City Councilmember
“Assemblyman James Gallagher is the person we need to send to Washington DC to represent Northern California. Mr. Gallagher has been a champion for rural California during his years in the state assembly, and I know he will continue to be a champion in Washington, DC. He is a worthy successor to Rep. Doug LaMalfa, who also served Northern California with dedication. As an elected member of the Shasta County Board of Education, I believe it is imperative we have representation in the House of Representatives who know the issues we face. Rural schools are not the same as urban ones. They have different needs. For example, our bus routes are significantly longer than urban bus routes. We have to deal with snow, wildfires, and unkempt roads. Additionally, our schools do not have the same financial ability to attract teachers and retain them. Mr. Gallagher understands these issues and will be a major asset to our rural communities. I wholeheartedly endorse James Gallagher to the next Congressman.”
-Michael Orlicky, President, Shasta County Board of Education
“James has been a champion of conservative common-sense values here in the North State for many years. I appreciate his leadership and his friendship to the community, always willing to listen and take action. It would be an honor to endorse James Gallagher as our next congressman.”
-Authur Gorman, Shasta County Board of Education Trustee
