YUBA CITY, CA -- Today, State Assemblyman James Gallagher announced he has received endorsements from numerous well-known North State political leaders in his campaign for Congress in California’s First District
(CA 1).
Gallagher, who represents much of CA 1 in the California State Assembly, is running in the Special Election to fill the vacancy created by the tragic death of Congressman Doug LaMalfa. He made the decision to run after receiving the support of Congressman LaMalfa’s widow, Jill LaMalfa.
Among those endorsing Gallagher within 24 hours of his campaign announcement are Senator Megan Dahle and Assemblywoman Heather Hadwick, former Congressman Wally Herger, former Congressman Doug Ose, and former State Senators Brian Dahle and Jim Nielsen.
In a joint statement posted on social media, former Senator Brian Dahle and Senator Megan Dahle wrote, in part: “We mourn the loss of Congressman Doug LaMalfa, a tireless champion for Northern California’s farmers, water rights, and rural communities. Assemblyman James Gallagher is the right choice to pick up the torch and carry forward Doug’s work. A strong, principled conservative and Doug’s longtime mentee, James has fought for our shared values, agriculture, and way of life while deeply understanding the challenges our district faces.”
Former State Senator Jim Nielsen said: "James embodies the same principled conservatism and tireless dedication to our farmers and families that Doug LaMalfa championed every day. James is the right leader to step in during this difficult time and continue fighting for the American values we cherish. I wholeheartedly endorse James in this special election—he will honor Doug's legacy and serve the People with integrity and resolve."
“These leaders have dedicated their careers to the North State and its people and I am very grateful to have their support for my campaign to continue the level of service and dedication that are the hallmarks of Congressman LaMalfa’s career,” said Gallagher.
Assemblyman James Gallagher’s family has called the North State home since the 1800s. Since being elected to the State Assembly in 2014, James has been a voice for common-sense policies that reduce burdensome regulations and taxes on families and small businesses, reduce wildfire risk, support law enforcement and protect the North State’s water resources. An attorney and partner in the family’s farming business, James Gallagher is married to his high school sweetheart, Janna, and they have five children.
